spotm - The new social networking site from Yahoo! India

Posted by as network, news, web, yahoo

Yahoo! India today launched a new social networking site aimed at a target audience of 16-24. The site is called spotm.yahoo.com Seems interesting coz at the moment its targeted at Indian youth :)

Its an invite only so far it seems. Though there is an option asking on the homepage if you dont have a yahoo account then you can create one. Though dont know whether the new yahoo account will make you eligible for a spotm account. And another thing that could have had been better about it was integrating openid for creating new accounts maybe? Yahoo IDs can be used as openID but yahoo doesnt accept openID for login anywhere on its services. Maybe openID is not so happening as of now. But an openID is a sure shot way of getting more registrations. Wherever I see an openID enabled website, I just register/sign into it. Coz its so simple with openID :)

And maybe it wont be an all that bad idea for yahoo to buy out spotm.com :)

(Hot News) YHOO - MHRD Deal!

Posted by Sundar Rajan G S as beve stallmer, coffee with experts, microsoft, steve ballmer, yahoo, yahoo mircosoft deal

Our Ministry of Human Resources and Development(MHRD) has nothing to do with Yahoo! I got the latest hot news from my special correspondent of CWS from Seattle. A “Reel” life company Macrohard (NASDAQ - MHRD) has offered a whooping 45b$ in a bid for Yahoo! - An online Gaint! Macrohard has outbid Mircosoft (NASDAQ - MSFT) by a very small margin! What a brilliant move by Mr. Beve Stallmer, CEO, Macrohard.

This deal is going to have amazing impact on the world! Even a bollywood movie is being made on this..

Check out the trailer of “Hard Deal!”

Ambreesh Puri, Aishwarya Rai starer is going to hit the big screens in April 2008.

Ambreesh puri has offered 44b$ to Aish’s parent to get married to her. Aish’s parents are already having health problems. They want to use this money for their retirement health benefits and go on a tour to Switzerland. But their only concern is how can they get their beautiful and aging daughter aish to ambreesh puri (yuck!)..

How can they trust him.. There are so many antitrust rape cases against him… But This is also their only chance to get health benefits.. else they have to beg in some old age homes.. They are confused..

“What will they do!!”

Coming Soon..

I am eagerly waiting for the “Hard Deal!” This movie is based on “real” life happenings of a “reel life corporate hero” Beve Stallmer, CEO, Macrohard!

The movie is sure to make a hit!!

After that, it will be impossible to catch Beve Stallmer..

So, I thought let me catch up with steve for a Coffee with Expert Interview right away.. He is a very busy man.. I hope to ask him some 3 or 4 questions…

========================================================================================

Coffee With Beve Stallmer, CEO, Macrohard!

Me: Sundar Rajan G S

BS: Reel life hero, Beve Stallmer.

Me: What is the whole deal with Yahoo! Why do you want to buy it now?

BS: Actually you wont understand my problem.. My girlfriend told me that if I dont do

something about mhn search (not msn search), she will ditch me and marry Sric Emidth of Boogle. Thats y, I want to buy Yahoo!

Me: But why sir? What has Yahoo!, MHN search, Sric Emidth gotto do with you and your girl friend?

BS: It has a lot to do.. MHN Search is so sucky that when she types her name, the first result is a nude picture of Britney Spears.. :-( So, she told me that if I dont fix this by

valentines day (very aggresive deadline), she will ditch me..

Me: Ok.. But Why Yahoo? Why Boogle? I still dont understand!

BS: Actually she is expecting her phd thesis as the result :-) We show a nude pic.. Yahoo atleast shows her Undergrad marks card.. Boogle Search gives better results.. I cant buy Boogle.. So, I thought I will buy Yahoo!

BS: I will leave no stone unturned to give this special gift to my girlfriend.

This is a valentines day special for her!

Me: Oh.. What a sad state to be in.. I hope you get the Yahoo! Bid.. Hope your girl friend stays with you!!

BS: Thanks :-( I am trying very hard..

Me: I understand that you have a busy life out there making all sorts of deals, handling antitrust cases, handling your girl friend etc.. How do you handle such a stressful life?

BS: I have a hobby to handle all stressful situation.. My only hobby is to play a game..

Whenever I am stressed, I play a game of Monopoly.. I learnt it from Gill Bates. He is a

master of Monopoly..

BS: I dont have a lot of time.. I am leaving now..

Me: Ok Sir, one last question for CWS readers.. What is your advise for young and budding entreprenuers?

BS: Whenever there is a competition, “Just go for the kill”.

Thank you very much, Mr. Beve Stallmer.

========================================================================================

Oh man!! It was a great to have Mr. Beve Stallmer..

Hope his love succeeds!! Hope the deal ends!!

Wish you all the very best sir on behalf of all the readers.

Hack dey India

Posted by alagu as bangalore, tech, unconference, weekend, yahoo

This one was a long time pending post, but reading the blogs of few other lazy people encouraged me to continue to write, after three weeks. After the Internal Hackday, Yahoo! hosted the first Open Hackday in India. The idea was awesome. Around 100 geeks gathered at Taj Residency, MG Road just near Yahoo!’s MG road Office, on 12 , and there were a few who were jealous!

I got the chance to be a part of the organizing team, thanks to shivku. David Filo,Bradley Horowitz and Chris Heilmann were some of the invitees from Yahoo! US and UK. There were talks by Chris,Bradley, Shivku and Raghu Ramakrishnan.

Anil Patel, spearheaded the whole event. I got to meet Pradeep Gowda and Swaroop CH, whose blogs I have been following for quite a long time. Most of the hacks were mashups or some smart mixup, I really wanted to see something like this. Most of the hacks were impressive, my personal favourites were Vizualizr, and Maps doodle. Started at 2:30PM on friday, ended at 2:30PM saturday, and the demoes were at around 6PM, perfectly planned. After demoes-prizes-vote-of-thanks, we had a band Thermal and a Quarter. Joe and others started dancing! I managed to take a couple of photos from Vishal’s camera. Mine sucked.

One of the things that came to my notice after Hackday was the resources available in YDN (aka) Yahoo! Developer Network. YDN is *the* destination if you want to learn Frontend Development.

YUI theater is simply awesome. Lectures by Crockford, Joe Hewitt and others in YUI are really worth spending time. I had an impression that Javascript is a language that doesn’t require importance enough to learn, which was easily proved wrong by Crockford. Crockford isn’t biased, he points out the disadvantages of the ECMA standards, as well as the good parts of Javascript. While debugging javascript was irritating with alert boxes, Joe Hewitt’s Firebug is a saviour. I am using Firebug heavily these days. Have a look at those videos, when you are free.

And, Yahoo! Maps India has got driving directions now.

PS:This is how you write a post totally away from the topic.
